“If it’s worth doing, it’s worth overdoing”
This has always been one of my motto's in life and lets be honest it’s served me pretty well so far. Sadly I’m not immune to the ravages of time and there comes a point when you have to accept that the shift and drift lifestyle isn’t sustainable long term. This isn’t one of those pieces where I’ve decided to settle down or join a monastery, it’s more like 1995 when Alex Ferguson jettisoned Ince, Hughes and Kanchelskis. United were still a top team and came within two wins of another double but the wise Scot knew changes had to be made to reach the next level. So whether it’s selling the midfield guv’nor or cutting out the visits to Supermacs, the road to greatness is paved with tough decisions.
Don’t get me wrong I’m not about to start booking a second seat my next bus journey, but its fair to say a bloggers belly has appeared. Those fitted tailored shirts were getting a bit too fitted. This is natural, I eat out very regularly, I have more dates than an Egyptian Market stall, I’m regularly invited to Galway’s finest eateries to sample their wares and my busy lifestyle isn’t the most conductive to proper home cooking. This is where my old friend Hector O Heochagain stepped in. In his own charming way he commented on my increasing presence and recommend that I checkout The Body Works Gym www.thebodyworksgalway.com in Briarhill Business Park.
The gym itself is really nice, a modern, very clean unit with top facilities it’s all about classes they have; circuit training, box fit, spinning, TRX and body pump to name but a few. The times are great too, 7am or 7:45pm are generally my favourites the pre work workout really sets you up for the day.
Diet is obviously my biggest issue and this is where I have been most impressed with the team. The approach is practical and realistic; the idea is to create good habits not to go cold turkey. After going through my honest current diet with the lovely Jess my trainer, she was able to get a number of goals which so far have been hit and are slowly becoming habit.
Like dating multiple women having a healthy lifestyle is about preparation and being organised. I’m only getting started but I can already feel more energetic which is already motivation to work harder.
I'm two weeks in and the plan is to keep you guys updated on my journey #fitnessforxmas so keep an eye on twitter and instagram for more….
