Being Galway’s most eligible bachelor isn’t always as fun as it sounds but it does have its perks. We are blessed in this city with an abundance of fantastic bars and restaurants, ideal for dating. One of the newest and certainly most eye catching Tribeton , number 1-3 Merchants Road. The guys at Tribeton got in touch with me just before Valentines Day to see if as Irelands top dating expert I’d cast my eye over the venue and menu to ensure that the besotted couples, dining out over Valentines weekend would be suitably impressed.
It’s that attention to detail that has made Tribeton one of my favourite venues in town. Naturally I am always more that happy to accept this type of offer but they made things even more appealing and interesting. The deal was that I was to come in for dinner BUT they got to choose my date. I’m generally not a fan of blind dates but I was confident that the high standards of the venue would ensure good company.
I ascended the beautiful sprawling staircase, slightly nervous but consoling myself that even if my date was as dull as the recent election campaign a beautiful meal was in store. The nerves grew as I spent the next twenty minutes like a meercat furtively scouting the top of the stairwell as my date was apparently fashionably late. After a few scares (some fours and fives came in) I was elated to see the stunning Mary Lee (who has since gone on to star at London Fashion Week, coincidence? I think not), make her way to my table. I could have been served a Big Mac meal and I’d have been happy with the evening.
We started with drinks, Mary got a glass of Prosecco (classy bird) and I went for a Whiskey Sour made with Jameson Black Barrell whiskey, one of my favourites. Tribeton is getting a great reputation for cocktails and rightly so, mine were fantastic all evening. Food wise I chose the sirloin steak, (safe bet for a first date, manly and not messy) my gorgeous companion chose the Seabass which looked divine and apparently tasted just as good. When you’re out you’re out so we ordered dessert, Mary, ever the professional went for some kind of healthy fruit salad thing and I went for the Chocolate Brownie, I had every intention of working off the calories in the near future (spinning class at 7am)
If you are planning to head out for a meal or drinks in Galway anytime soon, I’d highly recommend Tribeton, the service was excellent, the food outstanding and as a venue it’s as beautiful to look at as my date. You feel like you’ve been transported to a far more exotic location that Merchants Road on a wet Tuesday in February.
